National epilepsy day was celebrated on 17th Nov 2012. The theme for this year was epilepsy and empowerment. A project which was sent to International Bureau for Epilepsy under the promising strategy programme has been approved. 5 persons with epilepsy will be taught cell phone repair and then given the basic infrastructure for their livelihood. Advertisements regarding the same were put in the local newspapers. Another theme ‘PREVENT HEAD INJURY PREVENT EPILEPSY’ was propagated on the day. Flexes depicting follow traffic rules, use of seat belts while driving, avoid drink and drive, don’t use cell phone and wear helmet while riding two wheelers were placed in strategic locations. The Epilepsy Association Nellore chapter members, students, well wishers all joined the campaign. Hon. Member of parliament MR. Mekapatti Rajmohan Reddy flagged the rally. Around 130 people on two wheeler with helmet participated in the rally. Hon. MP along with members walked the whole distance. The concept and the event were covered by all local news channel and local news papers. A painting competition was held on the primary school where the same poster were depicted essay competition with the topic my Nellore city – my vision of a accident free city was conducted in 3 junior colleges students participated with enthusiasm.

A free epilepsy camp with distribution of medication was held in the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation CAMPUS. The function was attended by DSP Mr. L Chencu Reddy, Executive Director Mr. Surya Chandra Rao, Regional manager Mr. N Kumariah, Medical officer Dr Manorama. They extended a warm welcome and expressed their thanks as most patients are unable to attend Hospital outpatients due to lack of leave. The camp was attended by more than 80 patients

Pragathy Charities on 22nd December2012

Free epilepsy camp with medications was conducted in Pragathi charities on 22nd Dec 2012.Pragathi charities has around 250 mentally challenged children . 22 children with epilepsy were given free consulation with medications. It was noted that most children were having hypoxic brain damage with congenital hemiplegia. It was felt that more awareness among pregnant women is required and the association plans to conduct awareness programme for the same.

2011

A CME Programme with Prof M M Mehndiratta giving a guest lecture on ‘Clinical and Video based approach to Epilepsy’was conducted on 10th October 2012. The meeting was attended by around 200 delegates and was highly appreciated.
On national epilepsy day, 24 page comic to be released to school children by the chief guest of the function Mr. M Sridhar Krishna Reddy, MLA, Nellore City. 3000 copies of the comic will be distributed. A poster and a sticker regarding prevention of epilepsy by Neurocysticercosis were released by Dr K. Masilamani, District Medical health officer, Guest of honor. The areas of interest would be schools, colleges, hostels, PHC, UHC, hospitals, reservations centers, bus stops, railway station etc. The national epilepsy programme was attended by approx 600 people; patients, relatives, general public, physicians, registered practioners, and students.
An essay competition and drawing competition was held. Three winners from each competition were given prizes on national epilepsy by the chief guests. Regular epilepsy camps are being held by the chapter where consultation and free medicines are distributed. Camps are conducted in the outer of the city in different areas where prior information through pamphlets and loudspeaker announcement is done. Around 40 patients attend the camps.
A coloring competition for spastic children at the Red Cross was held and prizes for the winners were distributed. A free medical camp was held, Deputy collector Mr. Gaur attended the program.
A CME program with Dr K P Vinayan Pediatric neurologist from Kochi was conducted which was attended by over 70 doctors.
