World Stroke day was celebrated for a whole month
World Stroke day was celebrated for a whole month. The theme of 1 in 6 (Because we care) was propagated. Focusing on the theme ‘Because we care’ the emphasis was on stroke prevention by the Axon Neuro and Rehab Care, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. Free medical camps were held in the hospital and also at outreach areas. A total of 5 Medical camps covering a total of > 1200 persons above 40 years were screened. All patients underwent a detailed questionnaire regarding their dietary habits and physical activity. Blood pressure and plasma sugars were evaluated. Height and weight was checked and their BMI was calculated grading them as normal, overweight and obese. With all these risk factors evaluation the public were counseled regarding their stroke risk according to stoke risk card. Later all patients were given a short briefing on stoke regarding its symptoms, etiology and need for risk factors identification and modification. All patients interacted and cleared their doubts at all camps. The stroke risk score and the interaction helped the public to recognize and identify stroke symptoms and risk factors.

Headache is the commonest symptom experienced by mankind. It is a common ailment among teenagers. However most of the headaches can be minimised by proper unedstanding of their problem and life style modification. Keeping this mind a 12 page headache was released by the collector Mr Sreedhar.This comic is in english and telugu which will be distributed to all schools and colleges.

Dr Bindu Menon conducted the second EEG workshop at Narayana Medical College and Hospital on 25th May 2013. This was second workshop of its kind. The workshop was attended by neurologists, psychiatrists, neurosurgeons, pediatricians and general physicians from Tirupati, Ongole and Nellore. The workshop had Dr. S. Sitajayalakshmi,Consultant Neurologist, KIMS. Hyderabad and Dr. L. Lingappa, Pediatric Neurologist, Rainbow Hospital, Hyderabad as speakers. There was a good interaction among the audience. The function was also graced by Director Dr. G. Subramanyam, Medical superintendent Dr. P. Narasimha Reddy Principal Dr. B. A. Ramakrishna, Academic Coordinator Dr. Vijay Kumar, Hospital Dr. K.V.S.K. Subba Rao Speaking to the news reporters, Dr Bindu said that Video EEG is a diagnostic tool which helps in diagnosing Epilepsy. The Video EEG helps us taping the seizure at the same time the EEG is being recorded. She affirmed that there were regular such Continuing medical education programmes.
